Academic programme

Our concept is “Immersion in Spanish at all times.” This means that the students have to speak Spanish at all times, during classes, but also during meals, activities … lessons are highly intensive, but fun!

Each student has 32 lessons (45 minutes each) a week for everybody & daily workshops for the Seniors.

Every weekday, (with the exception of the academic excursion) will consist of nine 45 minute lessons:

Four lessons per day will be devoted to core language training skills – reading, writing, speaking and listening, (including grammar). We will be using the ‘Cutting Edge’ books in class and students will have their own workbook.

Lesson 5&6 will be devoted to one of six topics which students may choose to study over the two week period. These are detailed below.

The six elective topics that students will be able to choose from are:

Teens: Film Making, School News, Team Exams - FCE Exams – KET/PET, Music, Craft, Design, Technology

Juniors: Film Making, School News, Team Exams – FCE Exams – CAE, Music, Film Studies, Business Spanish, Spanish for Academic Purposes

Seniors: Film Making, School News, Team Exams, Film Studies, Business Spanish, Spanish for Academic Purposes

Lesson 7 will deal with electronic communication in what we call E-com lessons. The aim of these computer-based lessons will be to improve students’ knowledge about the use of computers and computer programs as well as their writing skills.

Lesson 8 will be devoted to tutorials and preparation for entertainments evening.

Entertainments evening is a central feature of the weekly program at LINES. Every class has to present an item which is devised and written by themselves. All students have to be onstage and each one should have a speaking part, however brief. Teachers play a vital role in motivating, organising and producing these entertainment items. The Entertainments Evening is run on competitive lines and all teachers and AOs vote for the best item to be announced at the end of the evening. There are two sessions a week for entertainments preparation Entertainments Evening takes place on Friday nights from 7pm for Kids and Teens, and 7.30pm for Juniors and Seniors.

Tutorial periods are to provide time for students to be with their ‘home base’ teacher. It is an opportunity to do homework pre-excursion and post-excursion work, student evaluations and all other ‘housekeeping’ tasks.

Classes contain a maximum of 10 students, with the average size being 7, of the same age and level.

altSports & activities

After class, everyone participates in a wide variety of activities - squash, tennis, swimming, football, mountain biking, basketball, water polo and many more sports and crafts of all sorts, music, art classes, drama club etc.
